Set the referral reward

Last updated: June 19, 2026

The reward is what makes people refer. Setting it on the job gives every channel and every referrer one clear, consistent incentive to pass the role to someone good.

When to use it. Set it while writing the ad. Whether or not there's a cash reward, this is also where you decide how people can enter the job at all — so don't skip it.

The referral reward is set in Edit job content (in the Reward section of the sidebar). There are three reward modes:

  • Monetary reward — an amount and currency.
  • Custom reward — free-text reward wording.
  • No reward.

You also choose how people can enter this job here — the Allow candidates to apply and Allow referrals checkboxes — and at least one must be enabled.

Good to know. A clear, specific reward (an amount, or concrete wording) consistently beats a vague one — referrers share more readily when they know what's in it for them. Even No reward works for warm internal asks where goodwill, not cash, is the motivator.

You can override the reward per distribution channel later — see Override the reward on a channel.

Troubleshooting

Can't save the application flow. At least one of Allow candidates to apply / Allow referrals must be enabled — a job no one can enter isn't valid. Tick one and save.
